“‘A‘a i ka hula; waiho i ka hilahila i ka hale. Dare to dance; leave embarrassment at home.”
EDUCATION
Na Hula O Puamana - Kumu Alice Naipo Puluelo Park - Kailua, HI
I first started dancing with the late Aunty Pulu when I was very young. I am the type of dancer that I am today because of her early teachings. She had taught the haumana that it was very important to learn the culture and understand the dance before jumping in to actually dance it. We had performed at various locations around the island.
Polynesian Dance church group - Rachel Tuiaki - Kailua, HI
We performed Hula, Tahitian, Samoan and Tongan at church functions.
Kailua High School Hula and tahitian - Kumu Hau’oli Akaka - Kailua, HI
I took dance from Kumu Akaka as an after-school course and performed a number at the High School’s May Day.
Kailua High School hawaiian language courses - Kumu Hau’oli Akaka - Kailua, HI
I took 2 years of Papa ‘Olelo Hawai’i from Kumu Akaka, in addition to hearing it in pieces from my parents everyday.
EXPERIENCE
Celebrity Resorts - Honolulu, HI
I became a professional Hula dancer when I began dancing in a night show at Celebrity Resorts in Waikiki. I had been dancing professionally for 4 years until I made the move to Arizona at the end of 2006.
Tihati Productions - Honolulu, HI
I had just signed with Tihati’s before I had become too busy with my other jobs at Hawaiian Airlines and 24 Hour Fitness to be able to devote enough time to dance in their shows. But to be picked to dance is one of the biggest honors you can receive as a Polynesian dancer. This is because they hand-pick the dancers for their looks and talent. The dancers must be in shape, look Polynesian and dance extremely well.
Private and group hula instructor - Chandler, AZ
I currently give private lessons in my home and group lessons at Singular Sensation Dance Studio. I teach women and children of all ages.
